St. Petersburg had run on about $50 Million of tax dollars a year from 1993-2000. Why does the City
need $103.4 million for 2007? Why does their revenue grow faster than inflation?
The City allowed property tax collections to grow based on the explosion in property values (nearly 100% since 2000).
If the City had raised taxes by the inflation rate plus population growth, the total tax collections this year would
have been between 65 and 70 million dollars. That is about 35% less than the $103.4 Million planned for 2007!
Could you have used a 35% tax cut? That is what you could have had if the city had acted responsibly.
