What about St. Pete Council Woman Renee Flowers?
- At the 9/14/2006 St. Pete City Council meeting, Councilwoman Flowers called back Cut Taxes Now Chair David McKalip to
the podium after he had asked the City to roll back the millage rate to 2006 levels. She seemed shocked that anyone
would suggest that the city should have to live on the same amount of revenue in 2007 that it did in 2006! Cut
Taxes Now wonders if her constituants were able to raise their income by over 12% simply by voting for it. Of Course
not. Why did the city tax rate go up over 12% when the population grew less than 1% and inflation was about 3%?
- Average people live on the same or a little more or less every year. This is in the face of increasing expenses
that come from sources like property taxes. Our local goverments don't seem to feel this basic rule of economics applies
to them. Especially Renee Flowers.
- Maybe Councilwoman Flowers doesn't think her vote to raise taxes effects anyone. She HAS MISSED 4 votes on
millage rate while on the council!(source - St. Pete City Council Minutes). When she did vote, she voted to raise
tax collections every time!
